Life After Astley Park School – Information for Parents
At Astley Park School, we know that thinking about your child’s future can feel exciting but also a little overwhelming. Our aim is to make sure every young person is prepared for their next steps, and that families feel confident and supported throughout the transition process.
We work closely with parents, carers, colleges, specialist providers, and local services to find destinations that match each pupil’s needs, interests and aspirations.
Below is an overview of the types of pathways our pupils typically move on to.
Further Education & Supported Learning: Many pupils continue their education at local Further Education colleges such as Myerscough, Cardinal Newman, Runshaw and Preston Colleges. These provisions offer Foundation courses which focus on the Pathway to Adulthood.
Higher-Level Supported Learning – Post -16 SEND settings: Locally these include West Lancashire Community School, Sir Tom Finney High School, Mayfield Special School or The Coppice.
Vocational & Employment-Focused Pathways: Some students begin routes that help them develop work-related skills through Supported Internships, work experience, vocational training, and volunteering opportunities.
We support families by offering guidance through reviews and planning meetings, helping with college taster visits and year 11 transition sessions to Post-16 provisions and services. We work closely with local authorities and adult services, ensuring each young person moves into the right setting with the right support.
