Today was the day we started our Duke of Edinburgh expedition! We got up bright and early and made sure we had a good breakfast because it was going to be a busy day!

After breakfast we went back to our rooms and made sure we had lots of layers on because it was going to be super chilly on the water and we wanted make sure everyone was well wrapped up. Once everyone looked ready for a trek in the Arctic we headed up to the front entrance where Jenny and Angus were waiting for us and we hopped onto the mini bus. We drove down to the Lancaster canal where it was nice and sheltered and not as windy, making the canoeing much smoother.

We all worked as a team to get the canoes from the trailer down to the water and got our life jackets on to help us stay safe. Then it was time to get in the boats! We split into two teams and everyone got straight into canoes and away we went!

We canoed about 2 kilometres down the canal before stopping for lunch and then we did the same distance back. By the time we made it make to the minibus we had lots of tired learners but everyone did brilliantly and did some fantastic teamwork when rowing!

For tea tonight we had the pizzas that we made last night and they turned out amazing! All of us thought they were delicious and everyone me did a great job making them. After tea we headed out to do a little bit of night time orienteering around the sight; we saw lots and lots of stars and got to use our torches to find numbers hidden around the grounds.

It was then time for bed, ready for our last day tomorrow and our big walk in the Lakes!
