Today, at Astley Park School, we celebrated Red Nose Day.
To help the learners in 8P to understand why we do this, they listened to a PowerPoint that Miss Miller read out. The PowerPoint explained that Red Nose Day raised money to help families that need extra support. Miss Miller touched on the word “Poverty” and discussed with 8P that some families may not have enough money to buy basic things like food, shelter and clothes and the money raised helps these families to be able to afford the essentials. Red Nose Day are on a mission to end child poverty globally!
This nicely led onto how Red Nose Day raises money by selling T-shirts, red noses, mugs and hair bands.
The activity the learners did to support this topic was to create a pictogram.
Miss Miller printed out three different events that school could do to raise money for Red Nose Day. They looked around the classroom to find symbols with cupcakes, non school uniform and a sponsored run. The learners then sorted them out and made a pictogram.
It has been nice seeing lots of red T-shirt around school today. Happy Red Nose Day everyone.
