Today is International Women’s Day.
In class we discussed what the day was today. 8th March is International Women’s Day.
Miss Brophy explained that many many years ago women were not allowed to do lots of things that men did, like going to school, voting and having a job. The women were excepted to stay at home and look after the house.
At the beginning of the day the class had to think of a job that only a man can do.
The learners did some really good thinking. The few suggestions were playing football, lorry drivers and being a firefighter to just name a few.
Miss Brophy then found some video clips of England women football team winning a game against Germany, 3-1. Miss Brophy also showed pictures of women firefighters and explained that all jobs can be done by men and women.
Miss Brophy then asked the class what job with they like to do when they get older. We had some good ideas. Jacob would like to work at the cafe where his mum works, Harry would like to be a footballer, Ty would like to be a gardener, Clayton would like to be a firefighter, Katie would like to be a dentist, Reece would like to be a runner and Joshua would make an amazing food tester.
In the afternoon the class then looked at 20 boxes on the screen. Behind the boxes revealed a picture of a job, both men and women can do. After all choosing a nutty, we did some guessing of the jobs. And we all did some good guessing. There was a taxi driver, a teacher, builder and a doctor.
9G then coloured some “Happy Women’s Day” cards to take home to the wonderful women in our lives.
Happy International Women’s Day to all 9Gs mums, nannas and aunties
