Wow what an adventure we all had on our D of E expedition!
We all admitted to a few nerves before hand- but we smashed it, what an amazing couple of days we had!
It started off on Tuesday, we travelled up to Borwick Hall, and just as we had done on our practice expedition, we had to make our own lunch, pack it into our rucksacks, then we were off! It was the same route that we had already done, but this time, the adults stepped back and we had to read our map to get to the first group stop at the top of a very large hill, where we could enjoy our lunch! We all did amazingly well, but the weather was much hotter this time and lots of midges and flies thought that we were their lunch!
We then carried on our walk, and with a lot of drink stops, and even an ice lolly break, we finally completed our day one walk!
Then it was back to school to prepare our tea, pasta bolognaise and garlic bread followed by a cheeky McFlurry each!
Then it was time to put up our tents, we had already had a practice and I’m glad to say it went much better the second time round! It was about 10 o’clock before we were all in our pj’s and ready for bed! Sleep time (what a joke!!!) everyone was far too excited for sleep and it was probably midnight before we all settled down!
We awoke to the sounds of the birds singing (about 3.30 AM)!
After putting our tents down (whilst being eaten alive by midges) bacon barns were very welcome!
Day 2 of our expedition followed the same pattern as day 1- but the walk was shorter and no hills involved, and to say how little sleep-we had all had- we were all in good spirits! We finished our day with team building activities!
I think we all agreed that we all rose to the challenge set by the Duke of Edinburgh- and a fantastic time was had by everyone!
