Careers Week at Astley Park School
This week we have been celebrating Careers Week at Astley Park School, with classes across the school taking part in a variety of activities linked to the world of work.
Key Stage 4 Highlights
KS4 have enjoyed a fantastic week, with opportunities both in school and out in the community.
Monday – Employability Workshops & Nursery Visit
On Monday, classes took part in employability workshops led by Lee James from the Department for Work and Pensions.
One of our pupils also completed a workplace visit at Busy Bodies Nursery, spending time with the age‑2 group, reading stories and supporting children with their play skills.
Tuesday – Health & Safety Sessions & Care Home Visit
A big thank you to Gary Sweeney from Telent, who visited on Tuesday to deliver informative health and safety workshops to Year 10 and Year 11.
Some Year 10 pupils also visited Highfield Care Home, where they supported residents with their artwork. The learners behaved wonderfully, and the residents were extremely appreciative of their help.
Wednesday – Alumni College Q&A
On Wednesday, KS4 were surprised by visits from former pupils, now studying at Newman College and supported by Steph McCartney.
They met each class to share what a typical day at college is like and took part in Q&A sessions.
It was brilliant to hear thoughtful questions from our pupils and to gain insight from our alumni’s unique experiences.
A huge thank you to Josh, Connor and JJ!
Thursday – Keepmoat Construction Visit
On Thursday, a group of Year 10 & 11 pupils visited Keepmoat Construction’s Plastering Academy as part of a wider project the company is working on with the school.
Year 11 will continue building their preparation for work throughout the rest of the term. A big thankyou to Julie and the team of apprentices that supported the visit.
