Today in 10A we’ve learnt about International Women’s Day, and have explored the reasons for why we celebrate International Women’s Day. We started off by looking at a PowerPoint about International Women’s Day as a class, with many of our learners being very concerned about the fact that in the past women were treated differently to men and that there are still places where women are not treated as equals to men. We learnt that women in the UK didn’t get the right to vote until 1928, and that women face issues with inequality in pay when they are doing the same job as a man.

We spoke about women that we look up to and find inspirational before going on to write a piece of work about a woman who we find inspirational. We had a range of answers from our learners with some learners focussing on home and people such as their mum, grandmother or sister, other learners looked at celebrities such as Rihanna, Chyna and Montell “Fire” Douglas and two learners wrote about teachers at Astley Park School that they look up to.

If we finished our work we had a range of different activities to move on to such as colouring pages with inspirational adjectives to describe women, and word-searches.

To all the women connected to 10A, from the mums to the grandmothers, the sisters to the aunties and the teachers, we hope you had an incredible International Women’s Day, we’re very lucky to have you in our lives!
