This week in 10P for careers week we have been very lucky to have many different people in school to share different work experiences.
On Monday we had a visit from Lee who visited from DWP. Lee began by talking to the children and sharing different ways to express who we are. Lee worked through different communication strategies to encourage the pupils to think about themselves and the things they like and don’t like.
The pupils engaged really well and all participated well asking questions. Lee will be in school for the next 3 weeks going forward and will be building on these skills each week.

On Tuesday we had a visit from Gary at Telent. Gary spoke with the children in a fun and engaging lesson with lots of opportunities to try out some safety workwear. Gary spoke about health and safety, especially moving and handling techniques to keep ourselves safe when travelling around a workplace and moving objects. Gary spoke about the effect this can have on the spine over short term and long term with the help from his football head model spine.  The pupils all took part in a Kahoot quiz at the end of the session with some prizes to be won! One lucky winner was able to take home a Tenet lucky bag.

On Wednesday three former pupils returned to school from Cardinal Newman to share their experiences of what college life looks like. They spoke all about their timetable and how they get around college. A highlight was most certainly the day off from college that they have each week, haha. They spoke confidently and positively about work experience they have had so far and how on some days the college is quieter than other days. Last of all the boys were very keen to share their lunch experiences. The food was most certainly a big thumbs up.

Also to coincide with careers week some 10P pupils took part in a workplace experience visit at Highgrove House nursing home in Chorley. They joined in an art activity with the residents and showed them the singing and dancing that we do every morning and class each morning, which everyone enjoyed.
