Hello, and welcome to the first blog for our new 11A class. We’ve all settled back in well to the routines of school, and are looking forward to our time as the oldest learners of the Astley Park School community.
With this being a big year, we’ve got to have a big celebration to celebrate our time at Astley Park and that will come in the form of our prom at the end of the year but to have a prom we have to be able to pay for it, and 11A have decided to continue the tradition of selling breakfast barms on a Friday Morning.
We spent time this week discussing the various roles and rules involved with making breakfast barms, as well as heading to the supermarket to buy the supplies that we would need to produce the breakfast barms to sell.
Our teachers have collected the orders through the week, and on Friday Morning it was time to head to the Food Tech room to begin our Enterprise.
We all donned hairnets, as well as aprons and gloves as we know that hygiene is very important whilst cooking, though some of our learners were far from happy with the hairnets (As was Mr Preece), as they were itchy and not exactly the sort of thing you’d see being modelled during the Paris Fashion Week. However we all kept out hairnets on to ensure that we were practicing food safety and hygiene.
Each of our learners took on a different role, with some cooking the bacon, others cutting the bread rolls, some buttering the rolls, as well as others putting the bacon, sausage, hash browns and sauces onto the barms before they were passed to Quality Control to ensure that each teacher who had ordered a barm got the correct one. Two of our learners delivered the barms to those who had asked for them to be delivered to their classroom or office.
Over the next few weeks we are going to rotate our roles to ensure that everyone gets the chance to experience each role involved with making our breakfast barms, so in a few weeks time it may be worth asking your member of 11A to cook you a breakfast barm at home!
I can certainly testify that the breakfast barms were fantastic, as I enjoyed a bacon and hash brown barm for my lunch!
