11R leave this week and before they do, they would like to share a message to you all:
Over summer it may be easy for us to let our children sit on devices all day long, why not? It keeps them quiet, it allows us to get our jobs done.
Please be mindful of the dangers which can occur from too much screen time -
* Evidence shows that too much screen time can contribute to childhood obesity, children are not getting enough exercise to burn off the energy that they consume,
* Evidence has shown that child can have increased anxiety from too much screen time, some can become addicted and struggle when they can not see a screen or check their latest notifications,
* Being on a screen for too long can effect how much and the quality of sleep a person has - most of us get grumpy with a lack of sleep - I for one, would want to avoid grumpy children, 6weeks is a long time to have tired, grumpy children. Lack of sleep can effect a child’s behaviours too.
*Too much screen time has been shown to contribute to increased anti-social behaviours and self isolation. In school we try to teach pupils how to appropriately socialise with people in a face to face situation. Please help us with this by monitoring how much screen time your child has.
*Too much screen time can also affect their communication skills, as communication online is very different to the real world..
The above are just a few implications of too much screen time. Remember, in the words of National Online Safety - don’t become a SCREEN ZOMBIE!
11R have created a great rap for you to share with your family
Enjoy your summer!
Love from team 11R
