9P have enjoyed a fun-filled World Book Day.

Our class teachers dressed up as Julia Donaldson characters for the day! We had The Highway Rat, Stickman, The Ladybird from ‘What the Ladybird Heard’, Scarecrow from ‘The Scarecrows’ Wedding’ and the cow from ‘A Squash and a Squeeze.’

We began the day by creating our own bookmarks and the watched the BBC animation of The Highway Rat. After playtime, we watched Mrs Pope act out the story of Stickman whilst Miss Townson narrated.

Following our story we wrote some sentences about what happens in the story The Highway Rat, and then Miss Molloy joined us and led a Drama session.

We really enjoyed the drama activities from ‘Sound ball’ where we decided whether we were throwing an imaginary quiet or loud ball to a friend and responded accordingly with our voices. We also played Charades where we acted out different animals for our friends to guess, before ending our drama session with a game of Sleeping Lions.

Before lunch we enjoy another one of Julia Donaldson’s stories, The Smeds and the Smoos, which Miss Townson read to us. Then some of us decided to find the letters in the Gruffalo themed sensory tray to spell out the names on the character cards.

In the afternoon we enjoyed an Attention Autism session where we began by looking at the items in the bucket and then deciding which animal from The Gruffalo had left footprints in the ‘snow’. We then played ‘Pin the mask on the Highway Rat’ which was lots of fun.

After this we split into two groups to go out into the school grounds and take part in a scavenger hunt, where we looked for eight of Julia Donaldson’s characters and ticked them off on our checklist so that we could mark off which ones we had found and which ones we still needed to find.

Back in the classroom we unscrambled the titles and wrote them by the corresponding pictures.

We then played ‘Guess the Character’ where we had to listen the description of the picture of the character on the screen behind us from our friends before placing our guess.

The whole of Secondary then come together in the hall to celebrate what a fabulous World Book Day we have had.
