This week in school has been careers week and we’ve all joined in at 11P! On Monday we joined up with 11A and we had a session with Lee from the DWP, who had come in to talk to us about the different skills and qualities each of us has. We started out with some icebreakers before asking each other questions about different things we like.
On Tuesday morning we went swimming and then had a visit to the library where we were looking for encyclopedias on plants and animals for our English and Science lessons. Everyone found some interesting looking books and they all checked them out of the library independently. In the afternoon we had a visit from Gary at Telent, who talked to us about staying safe at work. We talked a little bit about moving and handling and then had a go at safely picking up a box. Then we did a Kahoot quiz about everything we talked about; a big well done to Oscar who got the most points and won the prize!
On Wednesday we had a visit from some alumni from Newman College - they spoke to us about what college was like for them and how they felt. They told us about how it was really scary leaving Astley Park and at first college was hard but now they love it and the independence it gives them. They also told us all about the lessons they do and how great their teachers are. In the afternoon we had our weekly options lessons where all the KS4 classes mix to do something different from the typical curriculum.
On Thursday some of our learners joined 11A on a visit to Keepmote in Knowsley. They had a go at doing some plastering, and seeing what it would be like if they were working on a building site.
For those of us who stayed at school we went out and did some litter picking in the morning and then in the afternoon we learnt all about recycling and had a go at sorting our own rubbish into the correct bins before doing some worksheets.
On Friday morning we had a maths lesson all about shapes, where we learnt about the properties of different 2D and 3D and had a game of bingo at the end. In the afternoon we had golden time, where we enjoyed some time on our iPads and then it was assembly. A big well done to our Star of the Week Millie, for having a brilliant week and for doing lots of hard work.
We hope everyone has a lovely weekend and we’ll see you on Monday!
Mrs Price, Miss Anderton, Mrs Cobham, Miss Carter and Mr Clarkson.
