Astley Park Pioneer Day in 8P 2026
On Thursday, 8P enjoyed celebrating Pioneer Day.
Firstly, we chatted about how, “back in the day”, there were no televisions, mobile phones or the internet, and only a few vehicles. We went on to discuss how there were no supermarkets selling fresh meat, fruit and vegetables. In those early days, food was sourced from the land, and there were no ready-made meals.
We watched a video about a school day in America during the 1850s. There was only one classroom, and the learners were of different ages, ranging from 6 to 14 years old. All of the learners had to complete the same work regardless of their age.
To celebrate Pioneer Day, 8P had a go at making homemade bread. We added yeast and water to flour and mixed it into a dough. We then left it to rise before shaping it into hedgehog bread.
You can’t beat the smell of homemade fresh bread!
