We needed our waterproofs and wellies on day 2 at Calvert! In the morning we went to Goldscope Mine. This involved a walk and a trip inside a dark mine. We used torches to guide us through the mine and we looked for metal in the roof. We talked about what it might be like to work in a mine and decided none of us would like it as it was cold, dark and very wet! Chloe and Jacob decided they would like to challenge themselves to try to get out of the mine without their torches on. They stayed with the instructor Matt and tried to feel their way out of the mine, but it was quite tricky so half way they put the torches back on to get out with ease.
We went back to Calvert to warm up and then headed out to go Ghyll Scrambling in the afternoon. Everybody worked together to help each other through the water, avoiding slipping rocks. We then crawled through a tunnel to complete the activity which was a great experience but very very wet. We were so proud of how the learners worked together to support each other through the activity.
Before we went for tea, our instructor Ellen offered us the chance to go on the big swing in the sports hall. The swing could be pulled up as high as the learners felt comfortable. Some learners had a gentle swing while some thrill seekers were pulled right to the ceiling for a BIG swing! So much fun!
