World Down Syndrome Day 2024 (WDSD) is a worldwide event to raise awareness and celebrate the lives and achievements of people with Down syndrome. This day helps to combat stereotypes and misconceptions about Down syndrome and educate people about the condition.

World Down Syndrome Day 2024 falls on Thursday, 21st March. The third month was explicitly picked to signify the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome. This is what causes Down syndrome. Astley Park School is proud to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day.  The theme for 2024 is 'End the Stereotypes'. This is a focus on the right of those living with Down syndrome to live without judgement.

There are lots of great ways that you can celebrate World Down Syndrome Day 2024. Some people like to wear brightly coloured odd socks on World Down Syndrome Day. This is because chromosomes look like socks!

Please join us in celebrating this special day and choose some socks that are going to get noticed!  They might be mismatched socks or your craziest and most colourful socks, whatever takes your fancy!

Classes will be learning, celebrating and raising awareness of Down Syndrome this week so please check out class blogs on Friday!
