What a super term in 10G.
We have worked so hard on our job roles in Café at the Astley. We have learned how to cook toast, croissants, waffles, bagels, hot cross buns and crumpets. We have undertaken roles such as, clearing, tables, washing up, drying up, collecting bowls and plates, moving café tables, washing and drying aprons, taking orders and delivering food. We have strived to be independent in undertaking our roles. We have enjoyed the café so much that we have decided to keep it next term. We have also developed our money skills and applied them in our café - buying our breakfast.
We have focused on personal safety both in the community and home. We have practiced crossing the road and identified safe and unsafe places to cross. We have worked on this both at school and in small groups in the community. We have just started work on why something might be dangerous and are beginning to categorise this as, sharp, trip and hot. We will be building on this next term and applying it in our cooking sessions.
We are all very excited to be going on residential next term and will be practicing our independence, communication and safety skills as well as demonstrating our values of positivity, respect, honesty, teamwork and kindness.
Our topic next half term is Healthy Living. We will be accessing local shops, in small groups, to continue our safety in the community work and to become adept at following shopping lists. We will be buying ingredients to make healthy snacks and meals.
Our functional maths topic will be measurement – weighing and capacity where we will learn new skills and and apply these functionally whilst cooking.
Have a lovely Easter break.
