Another successful visit to the Lakes was had by all!!!! After arriving and settling into their accommodation the pupils spent the first evening relaxing in the games room before getting an early night. The first activity Bushcraft was down by the lake, the children learnt how to make a fire using a flint and a special kettle to make some hot chocolate!!! The afternoon was spent on the high ropes, a challenging set of obstacles which they negotiated by balancing on bridges, wire and beams. A couple of the pupils went the extra mile and completed the really challenging section of the course!!!
Day two started on the lake, literally on the lake in canoes and with the changeable weather conditions the two groups set off paddling. The instructors found us a clam area on the lake to play some group games and bring out our competitive nature. To get back to the shoreline the powerboat had to pull the canoes slowly as the swell was large and we would still probably be paddling now without it. Back at the shore the pupils engaged in a little splashing activity which resulted in them getting a little wet ( actually dripping wet through ).
The afternoon was a little more relaxed with a problem solving activity involving a cave in the Trust grounds, which at one point was in total darkness. We followed that with an orienteering activity in the Trust grounds and which followed work we had completed in school during our PE lessons.
All the pupils displayed a fantastic attitude to the activities and the instructors trying them and joining in without any hesitation. Some of the activities did challenge their resolve but they rose to the occasion and completed them.
It was a pleasure as always to support the pupils and see them enjoying the experience that Calvert provides. Well done all from Mr. Murphy.
