Can you believe we are more than half way through this half term?! We feel like time is flying by at the moment!
Here we are at the end of another fantastic week in 10G.
Thank you to everyone who attended parent’s evening appointments this week, Mrs Fisher has a few more to catch up on next week.
Please take a look at our finished displays in class in the photos below: our artwork in tribute to her Majesty the Queen in the style of Andy Warhol outside our classroom, our completed class promises that we have themed around our school values and our “My Life” display that will change throughout this term. At the moment, it features our fantastic self-portraits alongside a speech bubble saying something that we like at the moment.
We have all been so impressed with how quickly the learners in 10G have adapted to new routines and how they are beginning to use their initiative when it comes to completing their class and café jobs in class every day. A massive shout out to Ty this week who has been fantastic at leading our Zones chat in a morning and afternoon, well done Ty!
During the mornings this week we have been completing our assessments. We have been playing games on Education City to help consolidate our learning in Maths and English and some of us have been working on our letter recognition and formation. One group have been testing out their listening skills with some listening activities that involve following one and two step instructions. This proved to be quite a challenge for some of our learners so we will continue to practice this.
On Monday afternoon, everyone had a turn at walking around the local area and demonstrate their road safety skills. This has helped Mrs Fisher to find everyone’s starting points so that we can continue to work on the skills that our learners already have. Every Monday afternoon will be reserved for working on our independence skills, the activities we will be taking part in will vary from learner to learner, but will focus on whatever their priority is at the moment.
On Tuesday afternoon it was time for our cooking sessions. Group 1 made some amazing smelling oat and raisin cookies in the Food Tech room. They had to work with their partner to organise themselves with the correct equipment, before reading and correctly following each instruction on their recipe sheet. Group 2 were consolidating the skills that they had learnt in the previous week and were re-making bear toast, this time with minimal support from staff and following an in-task schedule. We were very impressed with how much they remembered from the previous cooking session and we talked a lot about following the instructions correctly, rather than guessing what we needed to do next.
On Wednesday afternoon we all took part in our second PE session at Chorley All Seasons. We started the lesson with a warm up, then played a game of “Beans”. We all had lots of fun following the instructions and doing the correct actions for the different beans. We recapped learning from last week by re-looking at bounce pass. Learners worked with a different friend this week to practice their bounce pass and then we all moved on to chest pass. This new manoeuvre proved to be trickier than the bounce pass but with support from staff, we all achieved our learning goal of using a chest pass to pass the ball to our partner.
Thursday afternoon Miss Troughton was in class teaching Science where we carried on learning about our bodies and how they work.
And then finally today (Friday) we have done some more learning about Zones and our emotions. One group practiced choosing a feeling, naming it and then making the same facial expression (check out Josh’s fantastic facial expressions in the photos below!). The next group were looking at photographs of people and discussing how they might be feeling and why. Then the last group were practicing their acting skills by choosing an emotion and then acting it out to the group to see if they could guess which emotion they were pretending to feel.
A reminder that we have sent homework folders home with everyone today. This week, we are asking for you as parents/carers to complete the homework with your child. Homework is themed around the Zones of Regulation that Mrs Fisher spoke to many of you about during parent’s evening this week. Please return to school before next Friday. If you have any questions or queries, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
A huge well done to BOTH of our Stars of the Week in 10G this week: Eshan and Lily! Eshan has been a delight (as always) in class this week, following our class promises and giving everything a really good try that we ask him to do. And we are so pleased that Lily is finally back in school with us all! She has had a fantastic (and very tiring) week.
Have a brilliant weekend!
Mrs Fisher, Mrs Cobham, Miss Patterson, Miss Smith and Miss Holliday
