10R have had a busy first week back after half-term! We jumped right into things on Monday, starting off with Maths in the morning, where we continued to learn about time and how to read a clock. In the afternoon we had a small game of rounders before it got too hot to continue, so we decided to sit outside in the shade and play some games where we would stay nice and cool.
On Tuesday we started off in the morning by continuing our ASDAN Preparation to Work unit, looking at different jobs, like nurses and teachers, and deciding what skills and qualities we think they need for their job. In the afternoon we had our English lesson, which we started off by reading The Wizard of Oz as a class; we then moved onto some English comprehension work, where we had to read a small news article and then answer some questions on it. Everyone did super work in this lesson and did all their work independently!
Wednesday morning was for recorder and Lego therapy! We began learning Old MacDonald in recorder as part of our DofE skills and we have been doing lots of Lego Therapy to help build up our speaking and listening skills and everyone has been doing a super job! In the afternoon we had our second trip up to Lever Park, having our lunches there before having a nice walk up through the woods and pointing out all of the lovely flowers and trees.
On Thursday we had a very special trip to Wood End Farm in the Trough of Bowland to go and meet their alpacas! When we got there we met Steph who gave us some health and safety tips for moving around the farm and then she took us to meet Polly and Princess, their two resident sheep. They were very lovely and let us put some harnesses on them to take them for a walk! It was then time to go and meet the alpacas! Their owner Allison told us lots of interesting facts about them and answered all of our questions and then it was time to get up close.
Allison brought out four of her llamas; Hamilton, Romeo, Smudge and Teddy! They had leads clipped on and then we got to walking them! Not everyone wanted to walk them but everyone came over and said hello and said that they were very cute! We had a lovely long walk through some fields, stopping the give them a few treats along the way, and after lunch we even got to meet some baby alpacas! We meet Merlin, who was few months old and we also meet baby Felix, who was only two weeks old but already very friendly and he loved saying hi to everyone. We had just enough time to meet the pigs Humphrey and Hector, and lots of sheep before setting off home. Everyone was very tired on the way back and some of us had a quick nap on the bus before getting back to school.
Friday morning marked the return of swimming, which we'll now be doing every Friday until we get to summer! Everyone did some really good swimming and massive congratulations to Sophie who got her 10 metre badge this morning! Well done! After lunch we had some visitors at school, and we went to go and meet some sheep, goats and Puddin' the Pony! We had an interesting talk with their keeper about lots of different animals and we asked some really good questions. Another big well done to Ruby who is our Star of the Week this week.
We hope everyone has a lovely weekend and keeps nice and cool. See you on Monday!
