We started this week with Thrive on Monday morning. We talked about our hopes for the week and what we were looking forward to. After break time we had our next session with Lee from the DWP where we talked about lots of different jobs and what we might like to do when we’re older. We also talked about the different skills you need for different jobs.
In the afternoon we split in half and four of us went to ASDA to do our shopping for the week, as well as practicing our skills talking to unfamiliar people when ordering food at the cafe. The four of us that stayed at school worked on some ASDAN and made posters about some of the risks/dangers you could face when out in the community.
On Tuesday morning the boys had food tech where they made some vegetable soup out of the veg that we had been given from Chorley in Bloom. Everyone tried some and said it was really tasty! The girls stayed in class with Mrs Cobham and talked about what qualities are good to have and what qualities they had themselves.
We headed to Chorley Leisure Centre in the afternoon for PE where this week we had a big game of ladders with 10A; Mrs Cobham told us a story about the zoo and when we heard our characters we had to get up and run around, racing our partners back to where we started.
We started Wednesday morning with some story telling where, as a group, we made up a story about an astronaut called Bob who went into space and met an alien. We’ve been creating these little stories to work on our creative writing skills that the learners will need when it comes to writing their assessments at the end of year 11.
In the afternoon we carried on with parenting awareness where this week we were thinking about all the different things a baby needs and why they might need them e.g. a baby would need a pram because it can’t walk yet. We thought about what Mrs Gregory told us last week about her baby and used these ideas to finish the work.
On Thursday two of our learners went out to Bosch Headquarters in Liverpool with Miss Wilkins; they got talk to people who worked for lots of different companies, like Bentley, and got to have a go designing their own cars as well as looking at the different computer systems they use for customer service. They talked about the different skills that people need to work at Bosch.
For those of us at school we had our usual swimming lesson in the morning and then in the afternoon we went up to Chorley in Bloom’s community garden where we helped the volunteers dig up a flower bed in preparation for some new plants this spring.
On Friday we finished off our parenting awareness unit by discussing who you can get from when you are a new parent and creating a book creator document with this information. In the afternoon we had golden time and assembly. Chris and Tig got shout outs for some great work at Bosch this week and a big well done to our star of the week Amelia! You’ve done some super swimming this week and shown a lot of independence when doing jobs in class and around school!
We hope everyone has a lovely weekend and we’ll see you on Monday for the last week of term!
Mrs Price, Mrs Cobham, Miss Carter and Miss Wilkins.
