Today 8A have spent time across the day learning about Eid-al-Fitr.

This morning, we participated in a circle time, sharing what we already knew about Eid-al-Fitr, before engaging in learning tasks which entailed using iPads to research about the celebration.

8A shared some of their existing knowledge about Eid-al-Fitr, including;

  • It is a celebration festival
  • It is part of the religion Islam
  • It is celebrated by Muslims

After our completing learning tasks, 8A were able to share new knowledge, including;

  • Eid-al-Fitr follows the month of Ramadan
  • Ramadan is a month of fasting
  • Fasting is when Muslims cannot eat or drink from dawn to sunset
  • Muslims give to charity
  • The date Eid is celebrated is based on the Moon
  • Muslims get new clothes for Eid
  • Eid-al-Fitr is celebrated by spending time with family and friends and exchanging gifts.

This afternoon, 8A invited their adults into class for our second Sharing our Learning session of the year. During the afternoon we shared facts we could remember, and our adults then joined us in some busy learning activities (where 8A could choose what activity they, and their adult, completed). We had a choice of activities including making a lantern (as these are used to decorate homes and signify the light of the world, exploring and using Islamic Calligraphy, an exploration tray in class looking with Islamic symbols and traditional artefacts and writing. At the end of our Sharing our Learning, 8A shared their research learning tasks from the morning lesson while enjoying a taste of some popular treats enjoyed during Eid-al-Fitr celebrations.
