This term our theme is Brilliant Bodies and this week, in the different curriculum areas we have been learning the following:
My Community
Travel training
Our Explorers are working on developing independence and travel training whilst walking around school. This has included getting dressed for the weather, putting on their hats, scarfs and coats and then removing them once back in class. This is also a great activity to help them to develop fine-motor skills. Other opportunities have also been provided this week to help our learners develop their fine-motor skills, including building towers from cups and cubes.
The World About Me
Shopping
During our Community visit our Adventures took to trip to ASDA trip to buy food items for snack time in class, as well as a bottle of roll on deodorant each, to tie into our PSHE topic of growing and changing.
Cookery
Our Explorers continued to develop their cooking skills, following an in-task schedule to make toast and butter it. They are becoming increasingly more independent with this and next week will be adding jam!
Science
Our learners explored lots of different exercises to determine which ones exerted the most energy.
My Thinking and Problem Solving
Maths - Time
We are continuing to learn about time and this week our learners used their cutting skills, glue, scissors, split pins and followed an ‘in task schedule’ to create their own paper clock faces that they can then use during forthcoming maths lessons on Time.
Our Explorers are continuing to choose and sing along to educational songs relating to time and events in the day, looking at hours on the clock and matching them to daily routines.
Maths - Number
Our Adventures worked on providing an estimate from a range of possible answers. They had to label which box they thought
Design Technology
As part of their DT project our learners began crafting photo frames out of different materials to decide which was the best suited one. They then worked to put card together to create a free-standing photo frame.
Me and My Body
P.E
Our learners are continuing to develop their gross-motor skills within gymnastics, this week focusing particularly on jumping, landing and rolling safely.
PSHE - Growing and Changing
Our learners engaged in a group session, the focus of which was on personal hygiene and bodies to link to our PSHE topic of growing and changing. Our Explorers completed jigsaws of different bodies and identified body parts, whilst our Adventures discussed changes that occur to bodies during puberty.
My Communication
Sensory Story
Our learners had a group session where following on from the story ‘Your Body is Awesome’ by Sigrun Danielsdottir, they all created their own feelings jars using beads, sequins or glitter in water to represent angry, excited or calm when they shook them. Our Adventures then wrote sentences about how the characters in the book felt.
My Creativity
This week’s My Creativity lesson focused on statues and our learners were provided with the opportunity to turn themselves into statues and then engaged is some very creative activities all about statues.
