In Forest School this week, we started with a litter pick. We found lots of rubbish in the school grounds that we tidied away, to make the school community that little bit nicer. We then went down into the dip to use our ears to listen to the noises in the environment. It was a very windy afternoon, so we could hear lots of leave rustling but when the wind stopped, we could hear birds in the trees and even a dog in the park. We then used things we found to make our own sounds, which included rustling leaves and twigs. Everyone was really creative with making their sounds and it was lovely to spend a sunny afternoon outside.
In Humanities this week we looked at why Pluto is no longer counted as one of the planets in our solar system. We looked at how the scientists have changed the definition of what a planet is. The main change is that Pluto does not “clear its orbit”. We acted out what this means- Earth pushes all of the debris and rocks out of its path so that it is clear for it to orbit around. Pluto shares its orbit which means that all of the debris and rocks moved around with Pluto rather than Pluto being in charge. We then had a small debate where we had to decide if we thought Pluto should still be a planet or not, we had to come up with a reason to backup our decision.
