Happy Friday! It’s the end of week 3 of the Autumn term.
This week we have been continuing with our assessments so that Mrs Fisher can finish off setting targets for the coming year for everyone. Thank you to everyone who has made an appointment for Parent’s Evening, Mrs Fisher is fully booked now for Wednesday 28th September. If you haven’t been able to make an appointment, then we can arrange one on a day and time that is convenient for you. Please email Mrs Fisher to do this.
Our 10G café has continued every morning this week, we have all had a go at completing a different job relating to the café and it is great to see everyone getting involved. Big shout out to Clayton this week who has been our “super spreader”, spreading the butter/jam/Nutella onto the toast. He has really taken on board the advice from staff and has found a new technique that makes it easier for him.
On Tuesday afternoons every week, everyone will be taking part in a cooking session. During these sessions we will be working on promoting independence, following simple instructions, using kitchen equipment correctly and safely, and keeping safe in the kitchen too. Each Tuesday we will eat our culinary delights as part of our afternoon snack. This week Group 1 made some delicious tomato, mozzarella and pesto paninis and Group 2 made Teddy Bear toast with jam/chocolate spread, brioche bread and bananas and blueberries. It’s safe to say that opinions were very divided when we got to sample our creations, some of us loved the paninis, while some of us hated them and the same went for the toast too.
On Wednesday morning we finally got around to creating our 10G Class Promise. This is something that everyone must agree with and try their best to follow whilst in school. We all took part in a circle time to discuss what things we should include in our promise and decided to base them around our school values: Positivity, Kindness, Respect, Honesty and Teamwork. We will be displaying these in our class as a reminder to us all to try our best to keep our class promise this school year.
On Wednesday afternoon it was finally time for our first PE session at Chorley All Seasons Leisure Centre. The whole of 10G were absolutely amazing both whilst walking to and from the Leisure Centre, as well as taking part in the PE session. We played a game of Cat and Mouse together, then split into groups to practice our throwing and catching with different sized balls. We finished the session working with a partner to practice a bounce pass. These PE sessions will contribute towards everyone’s Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Awards that we will be working towards achieving whilst in Key Stage 4.
Year 10 are very fortunate to be able to visit Calvert Trust Residential Centre again this year in Keswick. This will take place in November. Some of the learners in 10G are feeling a little bit worried or anxious about the thought of this, so every morning we have started focusing on a different element of the visit that we may be able to experience, in the hope that this might ease some of the worries and anxieties that some people are feeling. We have asked those pupils who have said they do not want to come to think of why they are feeling like this, so that we can try and help as we would love all of the class to be able to take part in this fantastic experience. If your child is feeling unsure about any aspect of the residential visit, please speak to them about it and let us know if there is anything that we can help with.
This Friday we had a very special visitor to 10G, Mrs Kelly. Mrs Kelly is training to be a Teaching Assistant and will be volunteering in 10G every Friday. We are all very excited to get know Mrs Kelly and for her to get to know us too!
Also this Friday it was Jeans for Genes day. Thank you to those who came into school wearing jeans or something blue, and a massive thank you to those who sent in cash donations too. In 10G we spoke about what genes are and Tyler F gave us a very good explanation of what genes- excellent understanding on a tricky topic, Tyler! We all took part in an art session that involved designing our own pair of jeans. The challenge was that we had to work in a team to create one pair of jeans between each team. This meant we had to talk to the other people in our team and listen to their opinions and ideas before making a decision about what designs we would use for our jeans. Some groups found this to be very very difficult, but with some support from class staff, they all produced some excellent looking jeans. 8A (Mr Massey’s class) very kindly agreed to be the impartial judges of our designs and Mr Massey came across to class this afternoon to announce the winners. In 3rd place was Harry, Clayton and Danny. In 2nd place was Ty, Tyler and Jacob and in 1st place were Eshan and Katie! Super work everyone and a big thank you to 8A for being our judges.
A big congratulations to 10G’s Star of the Week: Ty! He was awarded Star of the Week for making good choices and joining in with all work activities during the week. It would be an understatement to say that Ty was happy with our choice this week, he was absolutely ecstatic and couldn’t wait to share his achievement with staff around school. Well done Ty, we are all very proud of you. Keep up the good work!
Please check Evidence for Learning over the weekend to see a write up of our PE and Art sessions.
Have a lovely weekend!
Mrs Fisher, Mrs Cobham, Miss Patterson and Miss Holliday

Fantastic to read blogs every week, know what they’ve done as it’s not always Eshan would say what he’s done. Pictures are great too, thank you everyone ????
