On Tuesday we were very excited to go on a visit to Lancaster Castle which concludes our learning of the Pendle Witch trials.
We were very lucky to have a guided tour of the castle, this included the men’s prison and the women’s prison. We had a look inside some of the cells and the guide talked to us about the conditions the prisoners were kept, we also saw Hadrians Tower which was a round room filled with all the historical artefacts the guards used to humiliate the prisoners such as a ball and chain and a mouth clamp.
We were then taken to the court rooms where we were taken through the trial of the Pendle witches, we were very shocked to hear that one of the witnesses was only 9 years old, a lot younger her than us!!!!
Our final stop was the jury room a circular room where anyone found guilty of witchcraft would be hung. We saw the noose and straps used and the guide explained about how a hanging would be held and that all the village would come out and watch. This was quite gruesome but it gave us all a real understanding of the life and time of the witches.
Well done year 11 you were very engaged and repress your school so well
