This week we’ve been celebrating Science Week and we’ve also had our Holi celebrations.
On Monday morning Lee from the DWP came in for her second session with us, this time talking about our strengths and how these could be used in the future. We looked at different jobs and thought about what strengths/qualities we would need to do that job. We then did a work sheet where we looked at lots of different strengths and picked the ones that we thought applied the best to us.
In the afternoon some of our learners went to ASDA to get our food tech ingredients for the week and the rest of us stayed in class to finish off our ASDAN unit about staying safe in the community. We talked about lots of the risks you might come across in the community and then created a poster about what we had just learnt.
On Tuesday morning Millie went out with Mrs Cobham for her turn at Embellished by Emily, where she got to help Emily take foils out of a ladies hair and then wash it out. She also helped fold some towels and clean the shelves. For those of us of us left in school, some of us did food tech and made lemon drizzle cupcakes and some of did It’s Good to be Me where we looked at the skills and qualities that make someone a good person.
In the afternoon we headed off to the leisure centre to carry on playing football. Everyone did really well in this lesson and then we got to play robot tig and some quick thinking games with 10A.
On Wednesday we did a science lesson where we were learning about magnets. We looked at lots of different items in class and checked if a magnet would stick to them, deciding if they are magnetic or not magnetic. We then got to go outside and test lots more things.
With Mrs Powell in the afternoon we carried on with parenting awareness where this week we looked at how babies are actually made. We listened to the story ‘Where Willy Went’ and learnt how a sperm travels from a man’s testicles into a woman’s uterus and egg and how this happens between a man and a woman. Mrs Cross then came into class and talked to us about what being pregnant is like; we got to ask her lots of questions and have a look at her ultrasounds.
We had swimming on Thursday morning where we joined 8A in the pool so we could have an extra long lesson. Everyone is doing really well with their swimming and is making super progress.
In the afternoon it was our first session at Chorley in Bloom; we went up to the community garden near B&Q and met Gill and Iris, two of the volunteers that would be helping us throughout the weeks to achieve our Duke of Edinburgh volunteering as we help them get ready for Britian in Bloom. First we listened to the safety rules that we would need to follow in the garden and then we split up into small groups and pairs to work on different flower beds and jobs around the garden. Everyone said it was really fun and are looking forward to next week!
Friday morning we looked at Hinduism and the festival of Holi which is celebrated today! We listened to the story of Holika and Prahlad and learnt how this festival is to celebrate the god, Krishna. In the afternoon we had a little bit of a party for Miss Wilkin’s birthday as she had very kindly treated us to some party food. It was then time to go out onto the track and participate in our annual colour run to celebrate Holi as a school. Everyone had a lots of fun running around and throwing the paint on each other!
A big well done to our Star of the Week Millie for being brilliant at her work experience this week! We hope everyone has a lovely weekend and we will see you on Monday!
