Today we had a visit from NHS nurses who talked to pupils from year 9 and 10 about annual health checks that they will be invited to go to when they turn 14 years old. They found out about the checks that might be done on them by the nurses when they have the check, like blood pressure, having their pulse taken and their height and weight measured.
The nurses talked about the importance of exercise and eating a healthy well balanced diet, not having too many treats!
We learned about the importance of staying hydrated by drinking lots of water and how the colour of our wee can tell us if we are well hydrated or not. Then we moved onto the subject of our poo and how it can tell us if we have a health problem. As you can probably imagine here were lots of laughs and looks of disgust in this part of the talk, although everyone found it interesting!
At the end pupils were given a bag of goodies including a drinking bottle and a certificate which was fantastic!
