Day two at Bendrigg.
The day started for some of us at 6 am and others a little earlier !
We then all went for a lovely breakfast of toast, cereal, fruit, cups of tea, hash browns and pork or vegetarian sausages.
After this we got ready for our first activity of the day, canoeing! Group 1 and 2 joined together.
It was a very rainy day so we all got kitted out in our waterproofs and wellies.
We then drove down to where the canoe’s were. Firstly they had to work together to fasten two canoes together by using pieces of wood and some strips.
Then we got our oars and got into the canoe. We paddled down the canal . We saw lots of wild life like swans with their babies, and a heron. We also saw lots of dog walkers walking by the side of the canal and we were very polite, saying good morning to them. When we got to our stopping point, we were treated with hot chocolate and biscuit which we ate and drank in our canoes. After that it was the paddle back.
It did rain a little whilst we were out, but it didn’t spoil our enjoyment.
Then it was the drive back to Bendrigg for dinner, which was soup and sandwich with a flapjack and fruit.
Group 2 then went to ride the bikes, which some of us have been waiting for since being here. There were lots of different bikes to choose from. There was a great track that group 2 had to follow, even the staff had a great try, and some staff ( just the one ) hadn’t ridden a bike for over 30 years. Well done!
After the bikes was the zip wire. We can’t believe how brave group 2 were and they didn’t have just one go, but two.
Whilst group 2 did bikes and zip wire, group 3 were very busy. First they had a fantastic time going flying on the zip wire, some of us even went twice. We were all very brave. Then we went to the big swing. Wow what a great time we had. We got to choose what song we wanted to swing a long too, songs included don’t stop me now, stay and dancing queen just to name a few. We then got to go for a relax in the sensory room. We then joined the other groups for lunch. In the afternoon we went on a lovely adventure on the bus. We went on some canoes and set off down the river. We spotted some wildlife which included cows, sheep and ducks. We had a lovely break on the river and had a hot chocolate and a biscuit. We then had a relax before dinner.
For dinner time we had sausage mash and vegetables or if you didn’t want sausages, veggie burger.
Then it was certificate time. Simon, the leader of Bendrigg groups handed out certificates to all of year 7 for their manners and having a great attitude. Even the staff got one. There was also a certificate for the volunteers that had helped us this week.
Then it was disco time.
They all had a boogie to their favourite songs.
A huge thank you to all the staff and volunteers of Bendrigg for making us so welcome, amazing activities, yummy food and keeping us entertained throughout. What an amazing place and memories the learners will keep. Well done 7P you did staff and your families so proud, roll on the next holiday!
