After a comfortable first night away, 7A were up and dressed before 7am and ready for our first breakfast of the day! We helped ourselves to toast and cereal to start our day. Then we were treated to cooked items later on in the morning to give us plenty of energy for the day’s activities.
Our class were reunited for canoeing in the morning. The weather was quite wet so we started off with a trip to the store room to borrow some wellies and waterproofs. We also collected our buoyancy aids ready for the activity. We travelled by minibus for about 15 minutes to a quiet spot on the canal, where some of the Bendrigg staff had already set out some canoes for our groups to use. Our first task was to secure wooden planks to pairs of canoes, turning them into catamarans. Our learners showed fantastic teamwork and perseverance to complete this task together.
We then worked as a team to paddle down the canal before stopping for a drink and snack. After paddling back we drove back to the lodge for a lunch of sandwiches, crisps, soup and flapjacks.
We then split back into groups and took on the challenge of the zip wire, which made lots of people feel nervous. The learners were all so positive and so brave, with everyone taking the plunge and making the most of the experience. It was fantastic to see their sense of accomplishment, and the support and encouragement that the class offered to one another was incredible.
Our final activities were the indoor cave for the boys and bikes for the girls. Everyone was fantastic again and did themselves proud!
We had sausage and mash for our evening meal then a presentation of certificates for our wonderful learners. We finished our day with a disco.
Everyone is looking forward to getting home to our families tomorrow and sharing stories from our exciting adventure!
