This week 9P have been learning all about the Hindu festival of light, Diwali.
We learnt how people celebrate during the five day festival, and the preparations that they make, including cleaning their homes, buying new clothes, exchanging gifts of sweets and dried fruits, preparing festive meals and enjoying firework displays with family and friends.
We also learnt how people decorate for Diwali, from lighting ‘diyas’ (little oil lamps) to arranging flowers and creating colourful Rangoli patterns on the floor and intricate Mehndi patterns on their hands.
Having enjoyed learning all about Diwali and looking at some amazing photographs, we then created our own colourful Rangoli patterns, of which we were very proud and some of us went onto create Mehndi patterns on an outline of a hand.
