On Monday we all returned to school after a lovely break. We had a catch up with our friends and then got stuck right into maths! We worked in our groups, one group looked at comparing mass, another group looked at using a scale and another group looked at kilometres and kilograms

In English, we learned about personal details. Mrs Slattery explained that as we get older, we will have to fill in forms and applications for jobs etc. We discussed what personal details are and why they should be kept safe. We also completed a true and false quiz about personal details. We then spoke about how we can keep our personal details safe. We filled in a personal details form so we could practice filling these out, Mrs Slattery let us know before filling them out that they be shredded so nobody can find our details. In the afternoon , we had our last session with Lee from DWP, we spoke about CVS and what they are. Lee told us that when we leave school our CV will be more of a skills based CV, and how we’d include our skills and education. Then we spoke about personal statements. Our task was to create our own personal statement. We completed a survey of questions about us and we used this to help us with our personal statement. We then discussed interviews and how to present ourselves during an interview. Then Lee put some questions in a cup and we had to throw a ping pong ball and whichever cup it landed in we had to answer that question.

On Tuesday morning we started with English, we had a recap of what we did on Monday and spoke again about personal details. We spoke about who it’s safe to share personal information with.  We then read through some scenarios and had to decide, in groups, whether it is okay to share or not. After this, we had maths and continued in our groups, looking at mass and capacity. In the afternoon, we went on our IPads and looked for recipes for tray bakes, to do as part of our enterprise.

On Wednesday morning the learners visited the Keepmoat site Farington Mews in Leyland. We met with Julie and she spoke to us about what happens on the site, some of the learners sat at the sales desk. We were lucky enough to look around three different show homes. The learners were very impressed with the decor. We then walked around the site to look at how Keepmoat are developing the site and to get some ideas how to develop our models. In the afternoon the learners went to their option groups.

On Thursday morning, we did picture news, this weeks question was “what makes a great place to live?”. We discussed cities, and how it’s different to where we live. We discussed what makes a good place to live, we mentioned parks, gyms, public transport, shops. Our task was to think about the housing developments we have been working on and the development we saw yesterday. We needed to work in groups to create a pitch to our clients persuading them to choose our design over the others. In the afternoon, we went to Tesco to buy what we need for breakfast butties. Then we did PE, we’re doing Tag Rugby this term, so we looked at passing the ball to each other and catching.

On Friday morning, we made breakfast butties for staff in school. After this, we went back to class and had a nice chat with our friends, then got ready for lunch. After lunch we had well being time, we listened to music, played some games and had a good laugh. This afternoon we had celebration assembly and this weeks star of the week is Ollie for asking lots of great questions during our visit to Keepmoat housing development and when Lee from DWP come in, Well done Ollie!
