This week we continued to explore our pirate topic through our lessons, activities and provision.
We all really tuned in and engaged during our ‘seven seas’ sensology. We explored our 5 senses relating to all things sea themed with support from a core board which allowed our learners to communicate what they could see, hear, smell, taste and touch. This also gives our learners an opportunity to express if they like or don’t like something. Like every sensology session, we started by looking at our faces in the mirror. This really helps our learners to engage and concentrate by making different faces whilst looking at our reflection. We then continued to look with our eyes at the waves.
Mrs Summerfield swished round a fan with a large long piece of material to mimic wave like motions over the learners head. We all really enjoyed this and found it really calming. We then used our ears to hear the boat horn. Mrs Summerfield brought round a big button for us all to press and hear the horn very closely. It was then time to use our nose to smell, we all had a turn smelling salty water like the water from the sea. Some of us enjoyed smelling something a bit different an unusual, others didn’t like the smell and pushed the bowl away.
Next, it was time to taste with our tongue. We tried tasting tuna to represent the fish from the sea. A lot of us really didn’t want to try the tuna and used our core boards to express we ‘don’t like tuna’ which is really good communicating! Some of us just smelt the tuna instead and others pushed it away. Lastly, it was time to touch with our hands. We touched some green material to resemble seaweed which we were all eager to do!

We have enjoyed the sunny spells this week and have enjoyed plenty of outdoor play. Our teachers have blown bubbles for us to run and pop, and we have stuck in to plenty of water play to keep us cool.

Well done for another fabulous week full of lots of fun and plenty of exploration. Good job Maple class!
