This week in Maple Class, we explored Art through My Creativity, linking to our current topic ‘Sail The Seven Seas!’

Our learners attended and participated in an Attention Autism session stages 1-4. For stage 1, we watched three different sea themed cause and effect toys, capturing our attention and settling us to the activity. For stage 2, Mrs Smith used a hair dryer to blow around 2 pirate balloons which we all found very exciting and engaging. During stage 3, we focused on different weather conditions down by the sea. We played the song ‘Down By The Sea’ whilst Mrs Smith set up a big tuff tray on the floor with a scooter board, blue material, rice for rain, pasta for thunder and cotton wool for clouds. We all had a turn sitting on the scooter board and sprinkling the rice, pasta and wool whilst going ‘this way, that way, forwards and backwards over the deep, blue sea’. The song helped keep us all engaged during our friends’ turn and made our participation more exciting.
For our stage 4 activity, we all had a turn making our own weather themed collages. Our learning intentions for our explorers were-

- To explore different textures using my hands.

- To create simple collages with support.

- To explore textures presented by an adult.

- To make a choice from two different collage stimulus.

Our learning intentions for our adventurers were-

- To independently explore textures presented by an adult.

- To use my hands to purposefully create collages.

- To use a range of one-handed tools to make marks and simple patterns.

- To create simple patterns with colours.

- To create simple patterns with textures.

- To communicate about textures, they feel on different materials.

We enjoyed using blue and grey paints to symbolise the stormy, rainy weather before using different textures materials to further our collage. We also had paper with different weather conditions cut out so we could stick them on with our paint and materials. The collages turned out brilliantly, everyone used their creative skills to showcase their art skills. Well done Maple Class.
