To end our topic of ‘journeys’, Beech class explored the Gruffalo.

Throughout continuous provision, we took a stroll through the deep dark woods and explored lots of sensory trays. We read the story, put the purple prickles on the playdoh, counted the characters and engaged in flour shakes.

During attention autism and our adult led activities, we had so much fun. We started the week by listening to Miss Brown create a sensory story of the Gruffalo. She used a mouse puppet to walk through the sticks and leaves and bumped into the fox. We got tickled with orange feathers and then carried on the walk to the owl. We then touched the shaving foam and pretended it was owl ice cream. We then saw the snake and had a turn listening to it hiss. We then bumped into the gruffalo who made us all scream with laughter! Some of us then went through the story again 1:1 and used the communication boards to say what we could see.

Throughout the rest of the week, we made Gruffalo crumble, gruffalo paper plates and then Gruffalo sandwiches. Our favourite was definitely tasting the Nutella.

Throughout this whole half term we have shown, amazing tolerance with our peers, great turn taking, increased communication opportunities, explored different textures and have done great transitioning to different environments.

Beech class teachers cannot wait to see what the last term brings us. You’re all superstars.
