What a wonderful sunny week it has been and 11G have been making the most of it with quite a few outside activities taking place as well as lots of inside learning taking place.
We have been carrying on looking at the life cycle of a butterfly, and if you take a look at the photos you will see how our caterpillars are growing and developing, already beginning the process of finally turning into butterflies.
Ms Lea in particular is completely fascinated by the way the caterpillars are developing and she takes them home every evening in order to watch them and then show us how they have changed overnight.
Continuing with our caterpillar theme we have been reading the book The hungry caterpillar, and talking about how the caterpillars need to basically eat, sleep and poo in order to develop...though I don’t think our own class caterpillars will end up eating ice cream and chocolate cake. They do like to eat nice green leaves though.
We have been taking part in a science experiment to see what kind of things seeds need in order to grow and flourish.
We first of all put some cress seeds into plastic cups on top of damp paper towels and then we put one cup where it could get the sun plus we watered it. The second cup was watered but had no sun, the third cup had no sun and no water and the fourth cup had no sun, no water and no air.
We then used sheets to help us to predict what we thought would happen to the seeds in their different environments. We are all looking forward to next week when we can see which of our predictions were correct.
This was a really interesting science experiment and we are all hoping to see the results of day next week...watch this space.
We have also been learning about all the different types of plants from around the world and how the plants can help us.
We learnt that as well as being able to eat some plants we can also use some of them to help make medicines, wooden furniture and different types of clothes such as silk and cotton.
Also, we have been learning lots about people who work within the community and who can help us such as a Doctor, Dentist, Builder, Bus Driver and Police Officer to name just a few.
We watched a power point about all of the above and the different ways that the help us and then we talked about them and discussed how they could help us in everyday situations.
During the morning’s we have been using role play within our classroom cafe to help us to understand how to use money within real life situations.
We each had an amount of real money and then spent the money on buying a breakfast item. We could choose between crumpets, toast, cup of tea or a hot chocolate. This worked really well and we all learnt lots about giving the correct amount or working out how much change would be needed for each item.
Mrs Powell and Mrs Matthew helped to support each pupil in choosing the correct amount of money whilst Ms Lea worked hard in the cafe making toast, crumpets and hot drinks.
Yesterday afternoon we had a fun time outside during PE, we played tag rugby and it was so lovely to be outside in the sunny weather getting loads of exercise.
Todaywe also spent some time outside, again enjoying and making the most of the warm weather by playing a huge game of rounders on the school field before going back inside for our Celebration Assembly.
So, a very busy and enjoyable week for 11G and now we’re all ready for the weekend.
Take care, Ms Lea.
