What a busy week it has been in 7A this week. Mrs Crouch has been very busy with Mrs Clegg and Miss Melling looking at the curriculum for next year so Mrs Fisher has been in school all week apart from Thursday.

On Monday morning we all took part in a Cooking and Nutrition session where we carefully followed the recipe to make some delicious fairy cakes. We took it in turns to weigh out the ingredients and mix them together.

In My Thinking and Problem Solving this week we have been working hard on our Maths PLG’s and have started learning about money. Some of us have been working on recognising coins up to 20p, some of us have looked at coins up to £2 and then some of us have been recognising coins and notes, and starting to combine amounts of money in pounds in pence and working out how much change someone would need.

On Tuesday afternoon, as part of My Creativity, we continued our work on Colours and learnt more about tints and the artist Paul Klee who uses tints in his artwork. We looked at his painting “Separation in the Evening” where he had chosen two colours and made tints by adding white to the two colours and painting them in bands, one colour starting at the bottom and one at the top until they meet in the middle. We have created some brilliant pieces of artwork and can’t wait to create our own 7A art gallery on the Key Stage 3 corridor next week.

In My Community on Wednesday, we continued our work on Superflex and introduced our new character “Mean Jean” to 7A. The staff took part in a role play activity, unbeknown to the pupils in 7A. Ms Carter was chosen to play Mean Jean. She sat next to Mrs Taylor and while Mrs Fisher was trying to teach the lesson, Ms Carter started to show Mean Jean behaviours by talking over Mrs Fisher, mimicking her and rolling her eyes at her. Mrs Taylor said that she didn’t like what Ms Carter was doing so asked if she could move away from her. The pupils thought it was hilarious! Ms Carter is quite the actor. We split into groups and chatted about Mean Jean behaviours, some of us sorted symbols of Mean Jean behaviours and some of us wrote sentences about what Mean Jean might do. We all decided that we wouldn’t like to be a Mean Jean and that we would much rather be a Superflex instead.

On Thursday, Mr Murphy led our PE Session where all the pupils and staff stood in a circle holding hands. At first, they had one big hoop that they needed to move around the circle without letting go of anyone’s hands. Then they added a small hoop into the mix, when the big hoop and small hoop met around the circle they had cross them over each other without letting go of each other’s hands. They managed to complete the challenge of four hoops in a record breaking 1 min 30 seconds! Then they split into two teams and played a game with the cones where they had to work together to turn them the right before the other team turned them back.

Finally, in My Communication this week we have been concentrating on reading and spelling high frequency words and recognising and writing contractions. On Friday morning, we all went down to the Forest School area where Mrs Fisher led an Attention Autism session. We then split into 3 groups and followed instructions about how to build a campfire. Everyone did very good listening to their team mates and we showed we can work well as a team with our friends in 7A. We all sat around our pretend campfires, toasted marshmallows and drank some hot chocolate.

In Golden Time on Friday, Ms Carter very kindly brought in her very special karaoke microphone so that we could take it in turns to sing our hearts out. Josh sang Blinded by the Lights by the Weeknd and Owen G sang Baby Shark. Ms Carter finished off the singing with a very loud rendition of Rick Astley- Never Gonna Give You Up.

As always, it was Celebration Assembly on Friday afternoon and this week in 7A our Star of the Week was Josh! Josh has had a really good week, tried hard with his work and has given 100% with all physical activities that he has taken part in without any moaning about it! He’s also dealt well with a tricky situation which meant that his team lost in the quiz, Josh didn’t get angry and he didn’t say anything unkind. Brilliant work Josh!

Everyone should have received a phone call from Mrs Crouch or Mrs Fisher this week regarding going on a Residential visit with 7A before we finish for summer holidays. A letter will be coming home early next week with more details for everyone. We are all VERY excited!!
