Oak class have been enjoying all things summer this week from ice cream to sun cream (please remember to send some into school with your child as well as a sun hat and their signed consent form).
We made giant ice cream cones with Miss Curry. We used cornflakes for the cone, shaving foam for super creamy vanilla ice cream, red paint for strawberry sauce and brown paint for chocolate sauce. Of course we didn’t forget sprinkles made of glitter!
The activity made us hungry for some real ice cream so we each scooped our favourite colours and flavours from the Neapolitan ice cream. We were able to tell our teachers the names of the flavours, a lot of us chose the white vanilla with either the red strawberry ice cream or the brown chocolate ice cream and we all had chocolate sauce on top. Yummy!
We weren’t without our summer music when Miss Troughton came to visit. We had such fun learning that sounds can be soft or hard, loud or quiet and fast or slow. We played a great game where Miss Troughton hid a figure from the doll’s house and she had two different xylophone notes, one for moving closer and one for moving further. We listened closely to see if we were getting warmer or colder and we found them hidden in our classroom!
We also found lots of treasure in the woods on our scavenger hunt. Miss Woods asked us to find a certain number of sticks and leaves and when we found that many, we raced back to count them out together. We love being in the forest.
We’re looking forward to reading the story of the Mermaid Who Couldn’t Swim again next week. It was amazing to be so involved in the story, stroking the mermaid’s hair (purple wig), feeling the waves on our faces (water spray) and smelling the fish tail (tin of tuna).
It’s nice to have you back after half term, Oak class. All of your teachers are looking forward to a fun half term in the sunshine but let’s remember to stay safe with plenty of sun cream and sun hats at home and in school.
