In 10R we have looked at the 5 days of Diwali

Day 1 - Day of Fortune

we learnt about Lakshmi the Goddess of fortune, we discussed what the term ‘fortune’ means and went on a treasure hunt. We then learnt that we should be grateful for what we have in our lives and not be jealous of others.

Day 2 - Day of Knowledge

We watched a video of Krishna defeating the demon Narakasura and we talked about how people shouldn’t live in fear. We also compared the events of this day with the Christian traditions of Christmas, sharing a meal with family and preparing gifts.

Day 3 - Day of Light
This is the main part of the celebrations and festival. We watched the fireworks of New York from a previous year, discussed our fireworks planned for this weekend and then coloured brightly coloured firework pictures.

Day 4 - New Year

We learnt that families often celebrate Krishna, a supreme Hindu God. This day is celebrated by visiting temples and sharing food. So in class we have looked at some pictures of Hindu Temples and tried some Indian sweets.

Day 5 - Day of Love between Siblings

Diwali celebrates the bonds between brothers and sisters, we know that this relationship is not always an easy one. So we have taken some time to think about siblings and say why we are thankful for them. We have also prepared a small token gift for our siblings to remind them how special they are to us.

HAPPY DIWALI EVERYONE!
