Hello everyone, happy Friday to you all!
In English this week we have been continuing our Letters and Postcards topic. Group 1 were continuing to navigate the school to deliver letters to the correct classrooms. Group 2 and 3 have been thinking about who they would like to write to, and thinking of questions that they would like to ask their chosen people. We are very excited to write our letters and to be able to post them next half term.
In Maths, we continue to look at functional maths skills: number, money, time and working independently in a workstation. The number group have been recognising teen numbers and the money group have been recognising coins and notes, and beginning to combine coins to make £1. The time group have been consolidating reading o’clock on an analogue clock, and then beginning to recognise half past times.
On Monday afternoon we continued with our Independence skills. Mrs Cobham’s group went onto Harrington Road to look at the steps they need to complete to work out if it is safe to cross the road. Mrs Cobham challenged the group by looking at crossing between parked cars, everyone recognised that this isn’t safe because your view of the road is obstructed. Miss Patterson and Miss Smith’s group stayed in class this week to look at the steps involved in using a zebra crossing, we will put these into practice next time we access the community. Finally, Mrs Fisher’s group were learning about how to run the water to fill up the washing up bowl ready for washing up. Ty, Josh and Reece used a 3 step schedule and did a fantastic job of following simple instructions.
On Tuesday afternoon we split into two groups for our Cooking session. Group 1 weren’t following a recipe this week, instead they were working on a cooking skill- peeling. Mrs Cobham and Miss Holliday modelled how to use the peelers safely and then the learners peeled a variety of fruit and vegetables. Group 2 were working independently to follow a simple schedule to make the kebabs that they made last week. Some of us found it difficult to follow the instructions exactly, instead choosing to guess what they needed to do. We talked about how it is important to follow instructions exactly as they are said, not to what we think they say. Tyler, quite rightly, pointed out that it was a waste of food if we were to bin the fruit and veg that we had peeled, so on Thursday morning Mrs Cobham, Tyler and Eshan made mashed potato using the potatoes they had peeled.
On Wednesday afternoon we made our way to Chorley All Seasons for our fourth PE session as part of our Duke of Edinburgh work. This week we continued to work on our pivoting and played games where we had to pass to the next person in the line by pivoting to face them.
Thursday afternoon was reserved for Miss Troughton’s Science lesson where pupils were learning about the organs in the body and naming them. We all really enjoy our Science lessons every week.
A huge shout out this week to Clayton and Eshan who have successfully collected everyone’s dinners from the hall completely independently today!! Clayton was very reluctant to try this without adult support last week, but with encouragement and reassurance from Miss Smith, he finally accepted the challenge today. Eshan was a fantastic mentor and he will now hand over the reins to Clayton who will choose a different friend to collect dinners with next, enabling him to model his skills.
Massive congratulations to our Star of the Week this week, Tyler F! Tyler has shown so much compassion and kindness for his friends in other classes throughout the week, following our school values to the letter. Well done, Tyler- you make us very proud!
Homework has been sent home today, please have a read and support your child to complete this work. This will need to be returned to school by next Thursday 20th October.
A reminder that it is our class visit to The Astley on Monday- we are all very excited. Pupils can come into school in non-uniform. We will take lots of photos and will blog about it next week.
Enjoy your weekend!
