After our brilliant visit to The Astley on Monday, we continued the last week of Autumn 1 in style with some Halloween themed activities.
On Tuesday Mrs Cobham was in charge as Mrs Fisher was on an ASDAN course. In the morning we worked together in groups to make some paper chains for the Halloween disco. We had to use our cutting skills and our number skills to make sure we connected them together in the right order.
In the afternoon we made some breathing sticks. We all chose a pipe cleaner and then 10 beads. We threaded the 10 beads onto our pipe cleaner then, with some help, we knitted the ends so the beads wouldn’t fall off. Then Mrs Cobham showed us how to use our breathing sticks. As you breathe in, move a bead to the other end and then breathe out. When you have all the beads at one end you can start again. We all had a go and Tyler said it helped to slow his breathing down. We talked about how this might be a good strategy to use when we are in the Yellow Zone and need to calm down.
For our Food Technology session this week we made some Halloween themed rice crispy cakes. We all had a schedule to follow which broke the recipe down into simple steps. It is safe to say they were VERY VERY sticky! But we all had lots of fun making them and everyone was excited to take them home on Wednesday (when the stickiness had finally settled down!).
On Wednesday we finished off our decorations for the Halloween disco and then we took it in turns to go with Mrs Cobham to the Training Suite to use the Green Screen. We all learnt some new Makaton signs that were Halloween themed. Mrs Cobham has put our efforts into a video to go on the school YouTube channel, we will share the link once we it has been uploaded. A massive thank you to Mrs Cobham for all her hard work with the signing video, we are sure you will be impressed!
On Wednesday afternoon we walked to All Seasons Leisure Centre for our PE session. As a change from our usual netball lesson, we played some Halloween themed games and even got to play our Halloween themed playlist that we contributed to in class this week. We played Zombie tig, Halloween corners, had a space hopper race and played Musical Statues. A big well done to Katie and Danny who were the last two standing in Musical Statues, we couldn’t choose between them!
Finally, it was Thursday and our last day of this first half term! Lots of us were very excited for the Halloween Disco. In the morning we worked together as a group to scoop out the insides of our pumpkin and carve it into a face. Some of us had some amazing ideas and we talked about how important it is that everyone in class is happy with the design that we chose. To make it fair, we voted which style of eyes everyone wanted, which style of nose and which type of mouth. The winner of each vote was the one that we used. Jacob, Danny, Harry and Tyler volunteered to help with the carving, and they were very proud of the end result.
A huge congratulations to Clayton this week who is 10G’s Star of the Week! Clayton has worked really hard the last few weeks, trying new things and pushing himself out of his comfort zone by challenging himself. Him and Eshan were collecting dinners last week and Clayton was very reluctant to do this without support from a staff member. However, with lots of encouragement and reassurance, Clayton took on the challenge and did a fantastic job! This week it has been Clayton’s job to pass on his expertise to Danny and he has done this excellently. Well done Clayton, we are all very proud of you!
Homework for over the half term break is completely optional and consists of some Halloween themed activities that have been set on Purple Mash. All learners in 10G have their Purple Mash login stuck inside the front cover of their home/school diary.
The class will be starting swimming sessions on a Friday morning at Hindley Swimming Pool. Look out for more information which will be emailed to you.
From all the 10G staff, we wish you a very happy half term break and we will see all learners back in class on Monday 31st October.
