Hello to everyone on this very wet Friday! We are all very excited for Monday for our residential visit to Calvert Trust. Mrs Fisher sent some important information to parents yesterday afternoon via email, if your child is attending the residential visit please make sure you read this information. It has also been Friendship Week across school this week, keep an eye out for Mrs Cobham’s separate blog about what we have been doing in class.

On Monday morning, Group 1 went out shopping with Mrs Cobham and Miss Patterson to Asda in Chorley again. Danny did a brilliant job of leading the class there and back, using his visual to support his road safety awareness and helping to decide when it was safe to cross the road. Clayton showed how confident he was by volunteering to telephone the office from Mrs Cobham’s phone to let them know they had arrived safely and again to say the group were leaving Asda to come back to school.

Back in class, Mrs Fisher, Miss Smith and Miss Holliday were working hard with the remaining pupils on their functional maths targets. Some of us were learning how to tell the time when the clock shows half past, some of us were recognising coins from touching them and some of us were counting objects up to 15.

On Monday afternoon we learnt about Remembrance Day (which was last Friday). You can look at our other blog to see what we were doing: https://www.astleypark.lancs.sch.uk/blog/2022-11-15-07-35-19-10g-remembers

On Tuesday morning, Group 2 went to Asda with Mrs Cobham, Miss Smith and Miss Holliday. This week the weather was very very wet so Mrs Cobham kindly offered to drive the group on the minibus so they didn’t have to have wet clothes all day. They carried on using a shopping list and were practicing locating items around the shop.

In class, everyone else was working on their functional maths targets. Some of us were working independently in a workstation, others were combining coins together and making different amounts, and some of us were continuing learning about telling the time.

On Wednesday morning we all worked together to make Mr Causey a thank you card. Mr Causey has very bravely completed the Cape Wrath trail (which is 230 miles long and took him over 2 weeks to complete) in order to raise money for Astley Park School! So far he has raised £2000! We wanted to show him how grateful we are for his generosity and bravery. He has a Just Giving page if you would like to take look: https://www.gofundme.com/f/hiking-the-cape-wrath-trail-for-astley-park

Wednesday afternoon meant time to go to All Seasons again for our weekly PE session. This week we swapped which side of the sports hall we were using and got to use the side with the basketball nets. All of the pupils from 10G spontaneously started to split into smaller groups and play their own games. Some of us played shooting games, trying to shoot the ball in the net, and took it in turns to have a go. Some of us worked with a friend to practice throwing and catching the ball and some of us played “piggy in the middle” with friends. We were so impressed with everyone’s ideas and how much everyone enjoyed playing together. Top scorers were Jacob, Danny, Harry, Clayton and Reece. It was really good to see everyone trying their best and showing determination to keep trying to put their ball in the net.

On Thursday, Mrs Fisher’s son was poorly so Mrs Cobham was in charge. Everyone took part in some Friendship Week activities. Don’t forget to look at Mrs Cobham’s blog for more details: https://www.astleypark.lancs.sch.uk/blog/2022-11-18-14-27-39-you-ve-got-a-friend-in-me-in-10g

Thursday afternoon was Science with Miss Troughton learning more about the body and the different organs in the body too.

Friday was as busy as ever with swimming in the morning. We were so proud of everyone for trying their hardest and for challenging themselves- we will be doing more of this at Calvert Trust next week!

A massive well done to our Star of the Week this week: Katie! Katie has been demonstrating how grown up she is by getting transport to and from school every day (instead of Dad bringing her) which is a big change for her. She has also shown maturity in dealing with a difficult situation this week.

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you all on Monday morning ready for our Calvert Trust residential!
