On Monday we looked at Chinese New Year in 10R! We had lots of fun learning about the story of the Jade Emperor and the animals that make up the Chinese zodiac, and we found that in our class we had a mixture of rats and pigs in our class due to the 07/08 birth years. We all had a try of a fortune cookie, some of us for the first time, and had a good time reading our fortunes. We also did some Chinese New Year themed crafts, which included making an origami rabbit for the zodiac animal this year, and we decorated some red envelopes. We did this because, traditionally, red envelopes are used to give money on Chinese New Year as the red envelope symbolises good wishes and luck for the coming year.

In addition to this, we also learnt how to sign 'Lunar New Year', which is another name for Chinese New Year, and we also looked at how to say Happy New Year in Chinese.
