As part of our Brilliant Bodies topic, 8P have been learning about how to look after our teeth and avoid tooth decay. We used the Human Body app to digitally explore the effects of different foods and drinks on teeth. Using the app we found that we could use the toothbrush to brush away food and debris, but if we didn’t brush enough the tooth developed a cavity that we couldn’t brush away. We discussed that the dentist has to help us if we get cavities in our real teeth.

We used eggs to represent our teeth because the shells are made of enamel, which is similar to our teeth.

We decided to put the eggs into 6 different drinks for 5 days to see what would happen.

We found that water and milk didn’t really change our egg shells at all.

Diet coke stained our shell brown, but it didn’t disintegrate.

Coca-cola and oasis both stained the shell and it started to dissolve into a slimy texture.

Orange juice dissolved the shell the most and this gave a very slimy texture.

Our young people were super scientists and they all agreed to brush their teeth for two minute, twice a day, to keep them healthy.
