Welcome back for our last half term of the school year!!
It has been a hot and sweaty week this week, but we haven’t let that stop us from doing lots of hard work.
Our Healthy Living theme continues this half term. We are continuing to get our extra movement in every day by using our smart watches to track our steps. If anyone has their own watch at home, they are more than welcome to wear it to school instead of wearing one of our class ones. Our daily step target for this week has been upped to 8000 steps and everyone is striving to reach their goal. We start every morning with a run around the track, running 3 laps without stopping then walking for 2. Next week we will be moving this up to running for 4 laps. We have come a long way from some of us struggling to run 1 lap at the beginning of the Summer term.
On Monday afternoon we were recapping all our learning from Healthy Living so far and looking at what we will be covering this half term. This will link into our ASDAN PSD coursework. We talked about things that we have done to help keep us staying healthy such as moving more, having a bath or shower every day and wearing clean clothes every day. We know that it is important that we don’t wear the same clothes for more than one day, especially in this hot weather, as our sweat will make our clothes smell. We are remembering to re-apply our deodorant when it is particularly hot or when we have done lots of exercise.
On Tuesday whilst we were finishing off some of our ASDAN Healthy Living work from Monday, Miss Greenwood took everyone out to the track one at a time to time them running and walking a lap of the track. This will be our baseline and we will measure again before we finish for Summer to see how much everyone has improved.
In the afternoon we were cooking as usual, this week it was sausage rolls. For the first time in ages, we made enough so that there were spares to bring home! We hope that you all enjoyed sampling our cooking efforts. It was a big thumbs up from everyone in class. In the classroom, Mrs Cobham and Miss Loan were working with pupils to think of a goal that they would like to aim for between now and when we finish for the Summer break. Something that they would like to change or do more of to be a healthier version of themselves:
Clayton: Eating less crisps
Eshan: Eat more fruit
Harry: No phone at bedtime
Jacob: Have a shower every day
Josh: Try new foods
Katie: Eat less junk food
Lily: Eat fruit every day
Reece: Going for a walk at home
Tyler: Wear clean clothes every day
Ty: Move more
We hope you will support your child at home, as we will do in school, to achieve these goals that they have set themselves, please let us know how they get on.
On Wednesday morning we split into two groups: one group were completing some ICT work, whilst the other group were working on their play skills. In ICT we found out that we are going to be learning how to use Microsoft Word and OneDrive on our iPads over the next few weeks. We started by downloading the apps and using our Office365 accounts to login. Mrs Cobham’s group were playing Jenga together and building towers and knocking them down. Miss Loan’s group were playing a lovely game of snakes and ladders, taking turns and following the rules.
In the afternoon it was our favourite time of the week: PE! We are continuing with our Bootcamp regime over the next few weeks. This week we added a few new stations into the mix and counted how many reps of each exercise everyone could do in 45 seconds. Miss Loan recorded these for us and we are hoping that by the end of this half term, all the work that we are doing on moving more and getting fitter will help us to improve our number of reps that we can complete. We are crossing our fingers for this gorgeous weather to continue as I’m not sure that Bootcamp in the rain will be quite as enjoyable for everyone!
On Thursday morning, Miss Anderton was in class to teach Science. We are continuing our work on plants and animals. This week everyone got to plant their own seeds and they are down in the polytunnel on the field. The challenge is for everyone to remember to water them every single day.
In the afternoon we all worked together to make our class scarecrow for the FarmFest competition that has happened in school today (Friday). A massive shout out to Mrs Cobham and Miss Loan for their amazing work with the pupils, our scarecrow Barnaby the Bee Keeper is a sight to behold! We are hoping that we get lots of votes from parents as we believe that 10G have never won anything as a class before.
On Friday it was FarmFest in the hall, where the primary department were showcasing their work from last half term to parents. Miss Howarth organised a scarecrow competition for the secondary department to take part in and we chose to make a bee keeper as bees are such an important part of the farming process. I think you will all agree that everyone did a fabulous job of working together to make the scarecrow. We even got to go and visit the farm animals that had come into school. The winner will be decided on Monday so please can everyone vote for us using this link: https://padlet.com/hodgeonm/farm-fest-vote-2latdfe7if3zadgs
Outside on the field we got to meet a pony called Pudding, some baby goats called Elsa and Anna and some lambs too. Sam the farmer spoke to us about his animals and how he looks after them. Inside the hall, we got to hold a rabbit, a chick and even a snake! Miss Greenwood and Jacob were very very brave! Even though they are both very scared of snakes, Miss Greenwood held the snake and Jacob stroked it. We are very proud of them both for doing something that they were scared of.
In the afternoon as the weather was so warm, some of us decided to have a water fight outside with the water pistols before Celebration Assembly. Eshan was chief photographer and everyone else wanted to get stuck in! We even roped Mr Murphy and some staff and pupils in from other classes. Next week, if the weather is the same, we have challenged 9A to a water fight outside.
A huge congratulations to our Star of the Week this week Jacob who has gone the extra mile to get his steps in every single day, as well as being more aware of his personal hygiene and trying hard to improve this. Super work!
It is Rainbow Week in school next week and for our non-uniform day next Friday all of 10G need to come into school wearing something blue.
Have a lovely weekend!
