10G have had such a fantastic Sports Week in school this week, despite the sporadic weather changes! This has fit in nicely with our Healthy Living theme and it has helped give us some new ideas of exercise that we would like to try.

On Monday morning, we all took part in some Multisports activities with Adrian and Lewis from Chorley Sports Partnership. In the cage outside, we started with a warmup game of tails where we all had a tail tucked down the neck of our t shirts. Tyler was the catcher and had to pinch everyone’s tails, once he had caught someone, they became a catcher as well. Next, it was time for some golf. We split into groups and played a game where we had to aim for the marker cones and hit them with our ball using the golf club to hit it. It sounded very simple but was a bit trickier than we thought! Finally, we played a quick game of dodgeball (just as the heavens opened!). Pupils had to run from one side of the cage to the other, avoiding the balls that class staff were throwing at them. Before we finished, we all swapped over and this time staff had to run from one end of the cage to the other whilst the pupils threw the dodge balls at them! We had lots of fun, even whilst getting very wet from the rain.

In the afternoon it was time for a Healthy Living session. Mrs Fisher spoke to the class about sugar and how too much of it can affect our teeth. She then explained that everyone was going to investigate how much sugar was in a range of six soft drinks: cordial, milk, fresh orange, water, Monster energy drink and Coca Cola. The class worked in pairs to order the drinks from least sugar to most sugar, then predicted how much sugar would be in each drink. Mrs Fisher revealed the results and it’s safe to say that we had a lot of surprised faces around the classroom. We couldn’t believe that fresh orange juice was the drink with the second most amount of sugar in it. Some of us were surprised that milk has 2 teaspoons of sugar in it. Some of the learners in class like to drink energy drinks every day and were surprised to learn that there are 7 teaspoons of sugar in a can of Monster.

On Tuesday it was time for some football. We had to complete our activities in the hall due to the heavy rain but that didn’t stop us from having fun. We started by practicing our dribbling skills by moving around the hall, then moved on to dribbling the ball through two cones. Next a competitive element was added where you scored 1 point for each set of cones you managed to dribble the ball through, but then a staff member had to roll balls at everyone and if the ball touched you, you lost your score and had to start again. Finally, we split into 4 teams and played a game that involved defending the goal from the opposition. Some class staff became very competitive! Congratulations to Miss Greenwood’s team for scoring the most points.

In the afternoon, Miss Greenwood and Miss Smith took charge and completed some sports themed activities with the class: sports themed bingo, wordsearches and puzzles and then took the class outside when the weather was dry to play some games.

On Wednesday morning we went swimming as usual at Hindley swimming pool then we had Bootcamp in the afternoon. It was very hot outside but we all tried our hardest with each of the exercises in the circuit.

Miss Anderton was in class on Thursday morning continuing her Science work with the class on plants and animals. Then in the afternoon it was 10G’s turn on the inflatables! At the pupil’s request, we had a mini tournament on the inflatable assault course where we paired up to race through the obstacles. We had some very close races but in the end our three winners were Lily, Danny and Jacob. Well done to the three of you! We finished the afternoon by watching the Year 11’s prom parade around the track on the field. This has sparked many conversations about next year when it will be our prom and what sort of ideas we have for the day and night.

On Friday our last sporting activity was Yoga in the hall. We all followed the lady’s instructions to take part in the routine. We started with some different poses that were based on animal names, then moved on to a relaxation session. We finished with some different breathing techniques.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t do our re-match water fight with 9A so we will resume this next week if the weather is better.

Our Star of the Week this week goes to Clayton for making Miss Marshall (our Edgehill student) feel so welcome in class. Well done Clayton!

We hope you all have a fantastic weekend and we will see everyone on Monday morning.
