Here is our penultimate blog from 10G 22/23. It's been a busy busy week, think we are all ready for a rest!

The weather forecast for this week looked very wet so we made the decision to all go shopping together on Monday morning whilst it was dry enough to walk. It was really nice to all be able to go out together for the first time in ages. We split into two groups: half went to eat breakfast in the cafe while the other half shopped and then we swapped over. We all had our own shopping list with one or two items on and it was a good refresher on remembering where familiar items are in Asda, as well as using the aisle signage to help us out too.

In the afternoon we recapped our Healthy Living learning from last week's lesson all about food groups. Lily was on fire naming the different food groups that we had learnt about, then giving examples of foods in each group too.

Following our awards assembly last week, we received some nominee certificates for some of the different awards. We gave them out in class and it was wonderful to hear the cheering and clapping for each person who was lucky enough to receive one.

Last Friday afternoon, Mrs Powell challenged Mrs Fisher to a 10R vs 10G rounders match this Wednesday. Unfortunately, the weather was very wet on Monday afternoon so we had to make do with going in the hall to practice. It had been a "wet play" kind of day, so Beech Class came to join us in the hall to stop everyone from going stir crazy. We had lots of fun trying to learn the rules of rounders.

On Tuesday we continued with our cooking sessions. Last week we split into two groups to make brownies in the food tech room with Miss Greenwood and Miss Smith, and Mrs Cobham and Mrs Fisher in class making truffles. This week we swapped groups so that each group got the chance to make each item. We have been trialling some recipes in the hope of using them for enterprise opportunities towards our ASDAN work in year 11, as well as to help raise funds towards our prom. On Wednesday afternoon, Miss Greenwood and Harry went around school offering free samples of our treats to staff. We have kindly asked everyone for some feedback so that we can amend our recipes and help us to decide on prices for our items too.

On Wednesday morning we went swimming at Hindley. We have to mention an amazing achievement from Ty, earning his 5m, 10m and 25m badges in one session! Ty has gone from swimming with 3 armbands on each arm plus a noodle around his middle, to now being able to confidently swim a full length of the pool on his own! We are all so proud of Ty and everyone in the pool cheered for him on Wednesday.

In the afternoon it was time for our 10R vs 10G rounders match. 10G invited a secret weapon to come and join our team, Mr Greenwood. It was so nice to see Mr Greenwood back in class with us. We all had a brilliant time out on the field playing and we have invited 10R to come and do our bootcamp session with us next week. 10G were the overall winners but we all showed sportsmanship by cheering for both teams and shaking hands with each other.

On Thursday morning, Miss Anderton was in class for some Science then in the afternoon 10G challenged 9A to another rounders match. Considering that at the beginning of the week most of 10G's learners didn't have a clue about how to play rounders, they have given it a really good go. The final score was 13 rounders to 9A and 12 to 10G, well done 9A!

On Friday it was currently Year 11's last day in school. This meant we got to go and sit in the hall for their leaver's assembly. It was a very emotional affair and there wasn't a dry eye in the house from staff. We talked a lot about crying because you are happy and proud, and we have warned the class that there will definitely be tears from class staff this time next year when it is 10G's turn to leave!

A huge congratulations to Ty for being our Star of the Week this week. He has had a tricky week at home but has not let that hinder his progress at school, smashing his 25m badge at swimming and also showing empathy and care towards his peers in class. Well done Ty!

Have a lovely weekend and we will see everyone back in school on Monday morning. A reminder that we are swimming twice next week: Monday and Wednesday so please send in kit on both days. On Friday the pupils have chosen to have McDonalds for their dinner, a letter regarding this will be sent home on Monday.
