We hope that everyone had a nice half term. It has been lovely to see everyone this week!
On Monday morning we worked in pairs to create some thank you cards to give to the supermarkets Asda, Booths, Morrisons and Tesco for very generously donating prizes for our Valentine’s Disco before half term. We used Pic EDU on the iPad and worked together to design the front of the card and to write the message inside.
In the afternoon we all walked to Asda together, calling at Booths along the way to drop off the card that Clayton and Katie had made for them. When we were in Asda, Tyler and Reece gave their thank you card to customer services and then we all visited the café to purchase some snack. Whilst everyone was eating, Mr Crofts took a group around Asda shopping for the ingredients that we needed for cooking on Tuesday whilst Mrs Fisher took the last few learners individually to complete their Community Action coursework.
On Tuesday morning, Mr Crofts took a group at a time to make the batter for our cooking session in the afternoon. They put their maths skills to the test by weighing out the correct amount of flour as well as using a measuring jug to pour the correct amount of milk to use for the recipe. The rest of class completed another piece of Community Action coursework where they had to decide who they would ask for help in school during different situations.
On Tuesday afternoon the classroom was turned into a pancake shop using Mrs Cobham’s very fancy pancake machine. We took it in turns to pour the batter and cook our pancakes, then we visited Mr Crofts topping stall where we had a very wide selection to choose from including ice cream, sauce, lemon, marshmallows and syrup. Those who weren’t huge fans of pancakes still made one and tasted them. Everyone else ate 2 pancakes each, enjoying an interesting selection of toppings!
On Wednesday morning Mrs Mahood was in class working on a new ASDAN unit: Preparation for Work. The class discussed different jobs that they were interested in and then Mrs Mahood started to help the class to explore different skills that they possess and begin to relate these to jobs.
In the afternoon, Tyler was very brave and volunteered to lead our session on Friendship. Tyler discussed different scenarios with the class and about how they would feel if they were in that situation. We talked about feelings and how it is important to share how we are feeling with our friends and people who care for us rather than keep them bottled up inside. Tyler led some role play in groups where pupils explored situations where they had to speak about their feelings. We were really impressed with Tyler’s leadership skills and all his peers said how much they enjoyed his session.
On Thursday we visited Chorley in Bloom behind the leisure centre. Unfortunately, the entrance to Chorley in Bloom was flooded so we gained access via the sports hall in the leisure centre. We worked with Gill and Iris to make our own cress heads. We added the grass and cress seeds to the pots then added soil and fastened the tights around it. We used googly eyes and pipe cleaners to decorate them and then we have brought them back to class ready to watch them germinate.
In the afternoon, Mrs Cobham led a session on Environmental Awareness where the class discussed being self-sufficient at home by growing your own food. They looked at the range of food that can be grown at home then made a poster detailing the things they had found out.
Our Star of the Week this week goes to Harry! We are very proud of Harry this week for being so honest about his feelings and about the choices that he has made. Well done!
Have a lovely weekend and we will see everyone on Monday. Uniform should be worn Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with non-uniform Thursday for Chorley in Bloom and non-uniform on Friday for swimming.
