On Monday we started off our week the way we always do, with our weekend news. It’s always lovely to hear about what our learners have got up to at the weekend. In the afternoon we went to ASDA, where we did our shopping before having a bit to eat in the café.
We had our DofE carousel on Tuesday (see https://astleypark.lancs.sch.uk/blog/2024-11-20-09-52-00-10p-duke-of-edinburgh-carousel for blog about this). In the afternoon we made savoury muffins in food tech which were received with mixed reviews but some of us really liked them.
On Wednesday morning we did some work for International Men’s Day where we learnt about who Alexander Graham Bell was and why he was such an important person for inventing the telephone. We then talked about men in our lives – dads, grandads, brothers, friends – who are important to us and why we love them. When then did some maths, where we starting to look at time and how to tell the difference between o’clock and half past on a clock.
In the afternoon, we started our science unit learning about our bodies. We started this by talking about what we already know about the human body and then we went through all the organs that are in the body and why they are important to us and what jobs they do. We also had our anatomy doll so we could look at where they organs are all placed in the body.
On Thursday we had a visit to Myerscough college. We got to go round all the college and look at loads of different facilities – we saw the gym, the student accommodation, the farriers and blacksmiths, the equestrian centre and the foundation unit. It was very interesting, and all the learners said that it was really cool to have a look around. A big thank you to Craig who took us round and answered everyone’s questions.
We started off Friday by doing our picture news, which was all about discoveries. We discussed they different types of things you can discover and why some of the can be important. After break we had a lesson on anti-bullying for friendship week last week – Hacker T Dog taught us all about respect and what that means and how we can show respect to ourselves and others in our lives. In the afternoon it was golden time and celebration assembly; a big well done to our Star of the Week Oscar for being a really good friend to his peers in class!
We hope everyone has a lovely, safe weekend!
