LGBTQ+ in 8P 2026

This afternoon during our 'Rainbow Week' celebrations, 8P watched a 'Pop and Olly' video on YouTube about a prince who was expected to marry a princess. The prince refused to marry a princess as he was in love with his servant, the king expressed that he was unhappy about his son marrying a man who was not a royal. The prince declared that he would like to give up his royal title if he was unable to marry his servant, the king listened to his speech and realised that love is all that matters, regardless of gender, colour or any other differences. The king apologised to his son and changed the royal law so that his son could marry whoever he wanted. The children watched the video with interest and then completed a Pride word search activity and a Pride colouring sheet.

Staff then acted out scenarios in which one staff member shared that they had fallen in love with someone of the same gender, while another staff member responded negatively and rejected this. The learners were brilliant and discussed how the situation could have been handled more respectfully and inclusively. They helped act out positive responses and demonstrated an excellent understanding of kindness, acceptance, and respect for others. To finish the session, the learners coloured hearts in a variety of colours to celebrate diversity and inclusion. The class agreed that it is okay for people of the same gender to love each other and that it is okay for people of different genders to love each other. They showed a wonderful understanding that everyone should be treated with respect and accepted for who they are. The whole school gathered on the track to walk together in unison to celebrate this important event.

Happy Pride Month!
