8G started cooking lessons this week. Every week we will take it in turns to cook something as part of our healthy eating topic.
This week it was Group 1's turn to cook. They made tomato spirals with Mrs England and Miss Aindow.
Before they started, everyone washed their hands and put on an apron. Next, everyone got a recipe and Mrs England read it to the group. Everyone had a list of equipment and ingredients that they needed so they took it in turns to collect the right equipment and ingredients.
First they got the pastry out of the packet and put it on the table. It didn't need rolling any more, like the recipe said, so that saved some time. Next, they squeezed some tomato puree onto their pastry. They used a knife to spread it all over the pastry which was a bit tricky!
It was time to grate the cheese. Everyone was really careful and listened to the instructions from Miss Aindow and Mrs England. They sprinkled the cheese on top of the pastry and tomato puree.
Next it was time for the basil leaves. They carefully ripped the leaves into smaller pieces and put them on top of the grated cheese.
Finally, they carefully rolled the pastry up before Mrs England and Miss Aindow used a sharp knife to cut the rolled up pastry into pieces.
The spirals were put in the oven so then it was time to tidy up. Everyone helped with the washing up and drying the equipment, then putting it away. Group 1 watched the tomato spirals episode of I Can Cook on the board and talked about what they had just done.
Super work, Group 1! Mrs England and Miss Aindow are looking forward to working with Group 2 next week.

The tomato spirals were fabulous! Thank you so much for sending them home. Also many thanks for giving the children the opportunity to take part in food tech lessons. They are learning so many important skills and having lots of fun too. Great work 8G!
